Colombian culture is a mixture of European and indigenous customs and traditions that are reflected through music, art, literature and the relationship with nature

The Colombian is distinguished by being cheerful, attentive, hospitable, hard-working and always takes time to study and continue training. They are also very creative or enterprising people, as they say they have drive, they also always think of the collective benefit.


Customs and traditions of Colombia

Flower Fair: For 10 days the city of Medellin is adorned with flowers everywhere! Currently they have several activities that capture the attention of tourists.

Carnival of Blacks and Whites: It is celebrated every year during the first week of January in San Juan de Pasto and Nariño. For 40 years, children have had their
own day to celebrate Carnival. This event was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity by the UNESCO committee.

Candle Day: What is sought is to worship the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. This day is part of the Christmas celebrations in Colombia and you cannot miss it if you travel to this country during December.


Festival of the Vallenato Legend: The event was born with the purpose of honoring the miracle of the Virgen del Rosario. With the festival of the Vallenata Legend, we seek to remember this important event for the Catholic faith.
National Festival of Colombian Music: Thanks to the National Festival of Colombian Music, Ibagué is positioned as the musical city of Colombia. Throughout the day there are presentations by national singers and tribute is paid to a composer.


Cali Fair:
 Not to be missed is the Salsa Capital of the World fair! Enjoying La Cabalgata can also be fascinating, as nearly 5,000 cowboys ride through the city.
Wayuu Culture Festival: The culture of Colombia also has celebrations brimming with tradition, among which the Wayuu Culture Festival stands out. Dances, horse races and crafts are all you can expect to see during the Wayuu Culture Festival.

Cartagena Pride Festival: The Cartagena Pride Festival is beginning to establish itself as an important festival for the country. Forums, electronic music, workshops, talks and international speakers are all you can expect at the festival during the month of August.

Barranquilla Carnival: This annual festival begins the Saturday before Ash Wednesday and ends the following Tuesday. On the last day of this celebration, the people of Barranquilla say goodbye to Joselito Carnaval, a folkloric character represented with a doll. It is during the Barranquilla Carnival where you can
experience a fairly interesting to the culture of Colombia.

La Tomatina de Sutamarchan: Participants in La Tomatina often throw tomatoes at each other quite intensely and people of all ages participate. Other cultural activities are also carried out such as sack races, parties, contests and more.



Personal comment: Something that I liked about this country is that it has many festivities, the one that surprised me the most is Tomatina de Sutamarchan in which they throw tomatoes at each other and that this country is very colorful.
